[radio silence]

This morning was one of those rare silent mornings. It was odd. I lay in bed, with no song in my head and I listened to the world. Traffic moved on the next street down and out on the main road, an argument of herring guls held a discussion on the rooftops all around, my combi-boiler topped up its pressure, a neighbour took a shower and my radio alarm fizzed awake into detuned national morning radio. After a while, I got up.

[confusion]

Things were a bit muddied this morning. It seemed that I had Sixteen Tons by Tennessee Ernie Ford in my head when I woke, except that I couldn't have as I'm not certain I've ever actually listened to it. Now, I had heard the original Merle Travis version of it this week, yet it definitely was not that version I was hearing. Nor was it the Bo Diddley version, which was the only other one that I had. To make things trickier, it was merged with parts of at least two other songs, neither of which I was able to identify. It was a confusing morning.

[radio silence]

A quiet morning today. No song, not even one from the radio snatches. Just silence.

Distraction

This morning i was a bit distracted when i woke up and i completely forgot to pay attention to the little songs in my head. I do remember that there were a lot of them and, being that i saw a big band yesterday, there's a good chance Glenn Miller was involved in it somewhere. On which subject i ask, why do big bands, in this country at least, always insist on playing Glenn Bloody Miller (and almost nothing else). It's as if none of them have ever heard of Duke Ellington of Count Basie, to name but two. Honestly. Bloody whitewash.

Ricky

Today doesn't count. What i had was a guitar riff that Ricky was playing yesterday on a song we were working on. So not only is it not even a finished song, but it is one of my own and they don't get a mention here.

Office bugs

Today i woke with something i had heard from the shared music pool in the office. Not only is it a song that i don't like, but i have no idea who it is by or what it is called and i don't wish to either. In fact, i have removed it from my head already using the patented Morricone magic. It as probably by Richard Ashcroft or some such other nonse.

Nowt

I forgot to remember to forget today. Or whatever. No song number whatever.

The Return Of The Monday Morning Mess

Today the chorus of Barbara George's I Know (You Don't Love Me No More) was banged up against Three Little Maids from Gilbert and Sullivan's The Mikado. The first is a reasonable soul tune and the second is, um, well, i really couldn't say. It's not something i have ever listened to and i am pretty doubtful that i ever will.

(radio silence)

Ah now. This is getting silly. Seriously. What do you think you're doing Mr. Brain?

To be fair, i was in a bit of a hurry this morning and it was early, so i didn't really give my head a chance to come on-line before it was being pumped with walking music.

With luck normal service will be resumed shortly…

(radio silence)

Bum. Again. No fair.

Today was one of my own songs and here is neither the time nor the place to go into that. And i'm not really the best person to do it. So, until tomorrow…

(radio silence)

Not had one of these in a while. But along came one today. An empty head space with nothing in. Is that what most people have in the morning? I'm not sure i like it. I do hope normal service resumes tomorrow.

Not right

No, not the Stooges song, but MY HEAD this morning. It has made up it's own little morning song and it's not right. In fact is so very not right that there is not way at all that i am sharing it with anyone ever and the sooner it gets out of my head the better. It's obscene and degrading and i think it's all because of the shower gel. I can say no more. And don't ask either. Very shortly i will have erased it from my head forever. I didn't write this. You never read it. This never happened. Now go.

Hanging my head in shame

This morning i had this lovely little brassy latin break in my head. Ba-dum, ba-dum, ba-dum, ta-ra, ta-ra, or something. Nice and jazzy. It was sampled by… ah… um. Bugger. But originally it was from… ah. Definitely bugger.

I could hear the whole thing in my head and it was a good few bars long. But i just couldn't get it. For the first time in several years, i was totally stumped by my morning song.

Now at lunchtime it is totally gone, so i shall never, ever know what it was. Instead i shall suffer from a vaguely disquiet feeling for the rest of the day and hang my head in shame.

ruined

Nothing today. Ruined by wine last night, i was. Shocking really. this morning was awful and i had no time to be noticing music. Hopefully i will be well by tomorrow…

uck

Early alarm vs. very little sleep (inc. special guest appearance of the Neighbours showcasing their popular hit The Domestic At 3 a.m.). There may have been a song in here, but it just never got noticed in the rush for a train. Sorry.

Don't ring my bell, please

The intercom in my flat hasn't got a buzzer. Oh no. It's got a bloody bell on it and it is a frightening bell. To be awoken by which it somewhat akin to being slapped hard in the face. And all for a letter containing the cover details for my new monitor, which is handily now covered for frozen food loss. Brilliant. No song is going to make it through such rubbish.

nah, it's gone

Well, there was something. Earlier on. When i woke up. Only thing is, by the time i actually got out of bed i had forgotten it. Hardly a surprise as many hours had passed. A whole host of cocktails and an addictive Murakami novel will do that. I'll leave you to work out the order yourself. Tomorrow i shall attempt to get it together…

Oh crap, a gap.

It's been many, many weeks since i last walked this way. Things have been difficult in the real world. The interland was hard to find as well, what with having no monitor for some time and no connection. But i am back and i have kept note on my wandering morning head songs. In, due course, i shall attempt to fill in the gaps. Aren't you pleased? I bet you can't wait to see what they are.

Not today, thanks.

Frankly on a day like today, who bothers to note foolish things like morning songs?
